
Every installation is a story of its own, and this one deserves to be told: the job carried out by our certified technician Giuseppe Butticè at Bit Gml on a CMS 3-axis machining center.
What makes it interesting isn’t the complexity of the CNC machine, but the way the Nesting module in EasyWOOD managed, entirely on its own, to fit parts inside other parts, using the scrap openings left in 40-millimeter MDF panels. The result? Less waste, more parts on every panel, and zero manual programming.

Bit Gml: The Company and Its Production
Bit Gml is a company based in Macerata, Italy, that has been designing and building models, prototypes and molds in a wide range of materials since 2001.
It’s a very particular industrial setting, because the one-off nature of every product and the time spent programming are key factors in determining the final cost. Jobs are often complex, and every hour spent programming the machine is an hour that weighs on the quote. The same goes for material which, especially in the case of MDF blocks and panels, is anything but cheap.
Bit Gml works side by side with the customer through every stage of the project, from development to production. The starting point may be a finished file or simply a design idea: from there, Bit Gml identifies the best way to build the tooling, weighing three criteria: functionality, value for money and ease of transport.
The result is a very broad range of work:
- models in polyurethane and epoxy resins and in MDF, with different levels of surface finish;
- pre-production molds in MDF;
- production molds in Ureol and aluminum;
- trim fixtures and checking gauges.
Alongside these are foundry patterns, aluminum castings and rotational molds.
Installing EasyWOOD and the Nesting Module on a CMS 3 Axis Machine
Our technician installed EasyWOOD with the Nesting module on Bit gml’s CMS 3-axis machining center.
It’s a solid, versatile CNC machine, ideal for machining panels and blocks of composite materials. And this is exactly the kind of application where Nesting makes the difference, because every part is laid out to make the most of the available surface.
The Logic Behind Nesting
The most interesting aspect of the job was how the nesting operations were handled.
The parts were arranged so that the largest internal openings could host the smaller pieces, creating an interlocking layout that takes advantage of the “empty space” in components already placed. This way, waste is kept to a minimum and the yield of every MDF panel is maximized.
From Drawing to Machine Code, With No Manual Steps
All the machining operations were generated by the automatic CAM, with no input from the operator.
In practice, EasyWOOD:
- analyzes the material and recognizes the geometries to be machined;
- programs the toolpath on its own;
- applies the correct sequence of operations;
- outputs code that is ready for the machine.
The operator only has to check the result, instead of writing the code from scratch. That change frees up hours of skilled work and dramatically reduces the margin for error.
The result is a virtuous production cycle: less scrap material, higher yield per MDF panel and programming time down to zero. You don’t need a 5-axis machine for an efficient workflow — you need software that makes the most of the material already sitting in your warehouse.
