Wooden Staircase Production on the Accord 600 by SCM Group for Stairs Studio

Index

Wooden staircase production requires precision, effective technological integration among all the tools involved in the process, and meticulous control of every step.

In this context, Scm Group offers advanced solutions such as the Accord 600 machining center, designed to ensure efficiency and consistent quality even for the most complex machining operations.

In the Stairs Studio case, the entire production workflow was optimized by our qualified technician Stefano Masnada: from the installation of PowerSTAIRS to the transfer via Stairs Importer to send the project to EasyWOOD prior to the production phase.

By following this workflow, we were able to precisely manage the production of various components (including structural ones) of the wooden staircase.

Let’s take a look at how the integration of the PowerSTAIRS – Accord 600 by Scm Group played a key role throughout the entire process, from design to production.

What Does Stairs Studio Produce, and Why Did They Choose PowerSTAIRS?

Stairs Studio (formerly Rintal) is an Italian manufacturer specializing in the production of wooden, iron, and glass staircases for indoor and outdoor use.

The offer includes:

  • open staircases to connect different rooms within the house
  • spiral solutions that combine aesthetics and functionality
  • space-saving staircases to make the most of the available space
  • custom-built lofts to expand living spaces, ensuring maximum strength and safety

The philosophy underlying Stairs Studio’s production is clear: to create designer staircases without compromising on quality. For this reason, every stage of the process is subject to rigorous quality control, from design to installation.

To handle growing production volumes and the custom manufacturing of handrails and structural components, Stairs Studio needed design software capable of seamlessly integrating with its line of CNC machines.

The choice fell on PowerSTAIRS precisely because of its ability to integrate natively with the Accord 600 machining center from Scm Group: a technological ecosystem capable of moving from design to part production while eliminating redundancies and reducing manual errors.

For a company that specializes in crafting custom wooden staircases, this synergy is key to maintaining the quality and precision that the market expects from a leading brand in the industry.

How PowerSTAIRS was Installed on the Accord 600 by Scm Group

The installation of the PowerSTAIRS system on the Scm Group Accord 600 CNC machine at Stairs Studio was carried out by our specialist technician, Stefano Masnada. The workflow was configured to meet the company’s production needs.

The installation was carried out in three phases:

  1. The project was developed in PowerSTAIRS
  2. The file import in EasyWOOD via Stairs Importer
  3. EasyWOOD has generated machine programs for automated production.

The Accord 600 machining center is designed for processing doors, windows, stairs, and solid wood components. Equipped with three independent operating units, it can accommodate up to 106 tools on board and achieve an axis speed of 90 m/min. Furthermore, this Scm Group machine guarantees productivity and precision even on the most complex machining operations.

In the case of Stairs Studio, the setup made it possible to machine six distinct types of parts:

  • 90 mm-high, manufactured with beveled edges and through holes
  • 40 mm side rails that required the creation of a pocket for the well, holes for pins and tie rods, and pockets to accommodate the step plates
  • steps with thicknesses of 40 mm and 60 mm equipped with holes for assembly pins
  • 80×80 mm posts that were fitted with specific slots and holes for connecting to steps, risers, and handrails
  • handrail with a 40×100 cross-section, featuring holes for dowels and tie rods, as well as machining operations that required precise dimensional control to ensure the aesthetic and structural integrity of the finished staircase.

Each operation was set up and validated by Stefano Masnada directly in EasyWOOD, ensuring the accurate translation of the design model into machine instructions optimized for the Accord 600 from SCM Group.
